Café Central

Café Central is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic cafes in the city of Ponta Delgada, occupying a privileged place in the tradition and history of the largest Azorean city. The Central Cafe was inaugurated in October 1924 by José Matias Tavares. Iconic and distinct,  with the presence of several paitings of  Domingos Rebelo.

The activity of Café Central marked, in a unique way, a time in the social life of the city of Ponta Delgada, with several innovations both in the products presented and also in the service provided. involved. 

In 2017, Café Central becomes the new bet of Grupo Anjos. Rui and Ana Sofia Anjos decided to keep the name but to change the philosophy of operation, in order to serve the tourist in the best way but, above all, to reconnect the local client. It is also intended to revive the good memories associated with space and dignify its history.

They also want  to serve the customer, regardless of the time of day, with a vast and differentiating, fast-casual offer with healthier, fresh and customizable options such as salads, natural juices and burgers, but also with a wide range of options at the pastry and salty level. In this new phase of Café Central, it is intended to return the coffee to the city, for example, a brunch in one of the most noble squares of Ponta Delgada or a fine and casual dinner at the end of the day, with flavors that appeal to the senses. Because of its location, size and new dynamics, Rui and Ana Sofia Anjos believe that space meets all the conditions to fulfill the purpose it proposes.
